AAPI webinar seeks effective ways to prevent suicide

By drawing attention to the problem of suicide in the US, the campaign also strives to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide

A World Health Organization report says 800,000 people die every year due to suicide. This means one death every 40 seconds. Experts at a webinar on Sept 8 suggested a number of steps, including steps to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide and encourage the pursuit of mental health assistance.

The ‘National Suicide Prevention Week was observed from Sept. 5 to Sept. 11 in the United States, and was marked by a webinar on 'Precision Medicine for Mental Health: How to Save and Improve Lives.'

Hosted by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) in collaboration with MindX Sciences Inc., Dr. Jerome Adams noted that suicide was the 10th leading cause of death in the US, and the second leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 34. Dr. Adams, who co-leads Mental Health Transformation Advisory Board of MindX Sciences, provides strategic advice on maximizing societal impact, addressing health disparities, and helping improve military mental health.
