The New York Gov. Kathy Hochul awarded US$10 million in prizes for groups offering assistance to Asian Americans who were disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and hate crimes on Sunday.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has had a terrible impact on so many disadvantaged and disenfranchised communities throughout New York state. The Asian American community was affected particularly hard by the virus, as well as a rise in hatred and violent acts,” said Hochul.
