Bachchan urged to withdraw from 'pan masala' ad campaign

A national anti-tobacco organization has requested Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan to withdraw from an ad campaign promoting pan masala, claiming that the move will help prevent youngsters from becoming addicted to tobacco.

Shekhar Salkar, president of the National Organization for the Eradication of Tobacco, stated in a letter to Bachchan that medical research has proved that addiction to tobacco and pan masala degrades the health of citizens, particularly the youth. He said, since Bachchan is the government brand ambassador for the high-profile pulse polio campaign, he should withdraw from the pan masala ad.
