Bharath Subramaniam, a fourteen-year-old chess player, became India's 73rd Grandmaster when he earned his third and final Grandmaster norm in the Vergani Cup Open in Italy.

The teenager finished seventh overall in the tournament after scoring 6.5 points in nine rounds alongside four competitors. As a result, he earned his Grandmaster norm and crossed the 2,500 (Elo) thresholds. Bharath won six games and drew one while losing two to Korobov and Lalith Babu.
