Blood money: What every Indian with UAE dreams must know

As per the Sharia law, if one causes the death or injury of another person, accidentally or intentionally, he or she must pay the victim's family “diya” or "blood money”

Becks Krishnan, a native of Puthenchira, Kerala recently escaped death row in the UAE after an NRI businessman paid “blood money” to secure his release. The 45-year-old was awarded death for killing a young Sudanese boy in a road accident in 2012.

SPS Oberoi, a Sikh businessman from Dubai, who runs an NGO, 'Sarbat Da Bhala Trust', has saved nearly 93 Indians, mostly Punjabis, from the death sentence by paying blood money worth Rs 20 crore. He also fought their cases in the courts free of cost.
