British High Commissioner to India 'regrets' Jallianwala Bagh massacre

Ellis expressed his thoughts in the visitor's book before departing, writing: “What happened in Jallianwala Bagh was shameful… We deeply regret what happened and the suffering caused. It is not forgotten.”

During a visit to the scene on June 15,2022, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis called the Jallianwala Bagh massacre a "shameful event" and expressed regret.

He paid obeisance at the Golden Temple with the assistance of Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett. Ellis honoured the martyrs by referring to the April 13, 1919 slaughter as a "dark day" in the vast and intricate history of the UK and India.
