The CBI has received requests from the United Arab Emirates for the local prosecution of 16 Indian absconders wanted in separate incidents of fraud and murder in the gulf country.

The UAE and India have a bilateral extradition treaty that states that nationals of both contracting states will not be extradited to the other contracting state unless the requested state submits the case to its competent authorities for prosecution if the act committed is considered a crime under both contracting states' laws.
