There is nothing more that President Joseph Biden could have wanted after the meeting of the Group of Seven at Cornwall, United Kingdom. For the first time the rich countries called out China on human rights, trade, international norms and security issues, enough to get Beijing worked up to say that a small exclusive club of nations do not dictate the realities of the international system.

What must have particularly irked China is that President Biden was so keen on restoring relations with Europe that were fractured under the Donald Trump Presidency and quite open to open a new dialogue with Russia’s Vladimir Putin but was not willing to give the leadership in China the benefit of anything.
