Chicago resident Anu Beeravalli had hoped to finally meet her mother in India after two long years of covid isolation. The family had anticipated that non-vaccinated travelers might face issues in traveling abroad. So Anu, her husband Prashant and 12-year old daughter Anvi took no chances and immediately took the covid vaccine shots in May as soon as they became available.
They booked their Lufthansa flight tickets from Chicago to Bangalore via Frankfurt in June — well in advance for their December travel. Being US citizens, they also applied for the Indian OCI card since visa holders were banned from travel. Everything was meticulously planned and documents were in place.
