Indian American Dr. Aditi Srivastava Bussells, a first-generation immigrant, was sworn in as a Columbia City Council member in South Carolina.
The 31-year-old, who had run as a nonpartisan candidate, has become the first Indian American woman to be elected to municipal office in the history of South Carolina. In Nov., she won the 7-member Columbia City Council’s at-large seat by defeating Tyler Bailey in the general runoff election.
