The rise and rise of Indian diaspora in Australia

The story of Indians migrating to Australia unfolds back in the 1800s when they were sent as indentured laborers by the British colonial authorities, and most of them ended up settling there.

Over the years, the number of Indian migrants in Australia increased dramatically. At the beginning of the 20th century, Australian records indicate the presence of around 6,500-7,000 Indians in Australia. During the 2001-17 period, almost four lakh Indians migrated to Australia, including many students.
