British actor Emma Watson lauded rural women for protecting trees and forests during the 1973 Chipko Movement. Taking to her Instagram handle, Emma shared a picture from the environment conservation movement which Indian villagers led.

The Chipko Movement was an Indian forest conservation movement that began in 1973 in Uttarakhand, India's Himalayan region, and grew to become a rallying point for numerous environmental organizations worldwide. It established a precedent for the beginning of a nonviolent movement protest in India.
