French luxury brand Chanel appoints Indian origin Leena Nair as Global CEO

Though the 52-year-old is an outsider to the fashion industry, her 30 year experience as an executive in Unilever is what landed her the role at Chanel.

French Haute Couture fashion house, Chanel  appointed Indian-born British national Leena Nair as Global Chief Executive on Tuesday. Nair will be based in London and will take office in the new year.

The brand said in a statement that Nair's appointment as CEO will ensure its "long-term success as a private company." She will succeed French billionaire Alain Wertheimer, who jointly owns Chanel with his brother Gerard Wertheimer, while he moves to the role of Global Executive Chairman.
