Gita Gopinath, the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), created a significant moment in the history of the organisation, when she became the first woman to be listed on the "wall of former chief economists" of the IMF.

Gopinath is just the second Indian to accomplish this distinction; Raghuram Rajan, who served as the Director of Research and Chief Economist of the IMF between 2003 and 2006, also has a place on the wall.
