Give Indian citizenship to Lankan Tamil refugees, urges Sri Lanka's lawmaker

Sri Lankan Tamil MP V.S. Radhakrishnan has appealed to the Tamil Nadu and the Union governments to provide Indian citizenship to Sri Lankan Tamil exiles scattered across the state. Around 45,000 Malay Tamils live in various exile camps set up in the state.

As many as 10,000 Eelam Tamils are additionally looking for Indian citizenship. A large number of them who have returned upon guarantees made by the Sri Lankan government cite lack of any help from the island nation's government.
