The Parliamentary Committee of External Affairs on Wednesday asked the Indian government to maintain an authentic database of the Indian diaspora, that comprises of over 18 million Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and 13 million Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

In its report, titled “Welfare of Indian Diaspora: Policies/Schemes”, the committee  criticised the Ministry of External Affairs for having no “authentic data” accounting for Indians overseas or a “clear-cut policy” related to them.
