India had declared that influenced remarks on domestic problems are not allowed, amid a global outrage over the hijab debate. Karnataka was recently chastised by a US government body that monitors and reports on religious freedom across the world. "Hijab bans in schools violate religious freedom," Rashad Hussain, the Ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom, or IRF, tweeted, making reference to the conflict in Karnataka that has urged the state government to close schools and colleges.

Arindam Bagchi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, stated that individuals who are familiar with India will understand the realities.
