India aims to begin issuing e-passports to its citizens this year

The E-passport will be a combined paper and electronic passport, with an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and antenna embedded as an inlay in the back cover

The Indian government intends to offer electronic passports to its people in 2022-2023. The information was provided in Rajya Sabha (Upper house) on Thursday by the Union minister of state for External Affairs V Muraleedharan.

Muraleedharan made the statements in Rajya Sabha in response to a query on the government's plans to issue electronic passports in the calendar year 2022.
