The India Association of Oklahoma (IAOK) will host the India Food and Arts Festival 2022 on September 17 at Myriad Gardens, Oklahoma City.
The free event, is among the most unique festivals in the area, featuring various food, clothing , jewelry and cultural stalls from different regions of India.
This year the attractions at the event include an Idli Sambar food eating contest, bollywood style dances, classical temple dances, folk dance, fashion show , live music band and traditional art shows.
Multiple workshops on traditional block printing used for textiles, leaf art, warli tribal art seen in ancient caves, and diya (lamp) painting, learning to write in Indian languages, rangoli are also part of the festivities.
Throughout the event, cooking sessions on Indian food will be organized. Foods like chole masala ( curried chickpeas) , vegetable pulav, masala chai (tea), carrot halwa (pudding), aloo paratha and other Indian breads and dishes will be taught to the participants.
The festival is supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, which receives support from the State of Oklahoma and the National Endowment for the Arts.
