India extends a helping hand to Afghanistan

India sent the first supply of 2,500 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan via Pakistani land routes on Tuesday, as part of its humanitarian aid to Afghans who have been suffering from a food scarcity since the Taliban seized power in Kabul last year in Aug.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Afghan Ambassador Farid Mamundzay, and World Food Program Country Director Bishaw Parajuli flagged off the first convoy of 50 trucks carrying the shipment over the Attari-Wagah border crossing in a ceremony in Amritsar.
