“Mauritius not only has diplomatic and friendly relations with India but we also have blood relations with her.” The words reverberate as former Prime Minister and the architect of India's special friendship with Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth, breathed his last on June 3. He was 91.

Remembering him as one of the tallest leaders of the Indian Ocean Region, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss of a “proud Pravasi Bharatiya” (overseas Indian).
