India called for the situation in Kazakhstan to be stabilized as soon as possible following the deadliest outbreak of violence in the Central Asian country in three decades and said that coordination with local authorities helped ensure the safety of Indian nationals.

Last week, protests sparked by a rise in gas prices quickly turned violent, prompting President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to send troops from the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to Kazakhstan to restore order.
