India is ranked 85th on Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2021, with a score of 40. India's situation is described as "particularly worrying" in the study.

Pakistan, India's neighbor, gets a score of 28 and is ranked 140th, while Bangladesh has a score of 26. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Singapore have all been identified as countries that have boosted digital monitoring in an attempt to silence people who are seeking to hold governments accountable during the pandemic.
