With 164 votes India has been re-elected to the executive board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) for the 2021-25 term.

External affairs minister Jaishankar took to Twitter on Thursday to praise the MEA and India's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO for their "excellent work." "Great work #TeamMEA and @IndiaatUNESCO," he said.

Meenakashi Lekhi, minister of state for Culture and External Affairs, thanked countries for their support for India's candidacy. "I am delighted to inform you that India has been elected to the UNESCO Executive Board… My heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to all the member countries that supported our candidacy," she wrote on Twitter.
