India’s electricity demand has reached a record high of 210,793 megawatts (MW) on Thursday as many in the northern regions struggled with the ongoing heat wave.

The government expects the peak electricity demand to reach 215,000 MW this year once monsoon arrives. The resulting rise in humidity levels will increase the usage of air conditioners.
