India plans to host an ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) meeting of foreign ministers, later this year. The meeting will be to celebrate the 30th anniversary of India's engagement with ASEAN. In 1992, India first became a "sectoral dialogue partner" of the 10-country grouping.

In December 1995, this was changed to a full dialogue partnership. The ASEAN-India Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 2002, strengthened the relationship even further. The ASEAN-India Summit has been conducted yearly since then.
