India will soon begin domestic manufacturing of 108 military equipment, including sophisticated defense systems, as a part of its flagship Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, plans to make an official declaration in this respect next week.

Rajnath told reporters that this will raise the bar of India's defense capacity. He added that the ministry is dedicated to providing full assistance to defense manufacturing in order to reduce reliance on imports. The news comes just a year after the Centre ordered a prohibition on the imports of specified equipment.
