Vimal Patel and several other Indian hoteliers filed a lawsuit against big names in the hotel business ChoiceHotels International and Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) in the District Court of Southern New Orleans in May. It is the first of at least five lawsuits that have been filed against IHG.

The lawsuit states that these companies exploit small hotel owners and overcharge them. The choice was accused of obtaining rebates from necessary vendors who charged inflated prices for franchised linens, cookware, and other supplies in his case, as well as one filed by more than 90 franchisees last year.
