Indian American physician Rahul Gupta has been nominated for the post of Director of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) by President Joe Biden, at a time when the nation is dealing with the highest overdose cases ever recorded.
Congressman David Trone also supported Dr Gupta's nomination. "Dr Gupta’s pursuit of innovative and data-driven strategies to decrease the fatal overdose rate during his time as Commissioner and State Health Officer in West Virginia will prove invaluable as we work to end the epidemic that has killed over 600,000 Americans." he said in a statement released by his office.
His nomination was sent by the White House to the Congress on July 15. If confirmed by the Senate, he will be the first physician ever to lead the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.
