Nine of 11 Spelling Bee finalists this year are Indian-Americans

Nine of eleven finalists for this year’s Spelling Bee competition are Indian-Americans. The upbringing in an Indian household, wherein the child participates in every activity, is driving the number of Indian participants in these global events to a higher number. The US Spelling Bee has seen high participation from Indian-Americans for more than a decade now.

“We are honored to introduce our 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee Finalists. Round after round, this group of spellers proved their mettle, and we look forward to seeing them show off their knowledge and hard work as they square off against the dictionary on the national stage,” said Dr J Michael Durnil, Executive Director of the Bee.
