The new variant of the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, Omicron, is the most recent rising concern of the world, which was just crippling back its path to normality. The Omicron variant likely will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus, and researchers, scientists, and doctors are working relentlessly to determine how well existing treatments for COVID-19 work and what more can be done.

A group of Indian researchers working in the United States and Canada found that the Omicron variant may have emerged from a co-infected Covid-19 patient when the virus modified its genetic template. A Covid-19 patient may have been concurrently infected by one of the seasonal coronaviruses, such as HCOV-229E, which is one of the viruses that cause the common cold.
