An Indian citizen, Waseem Maknojiya (37), who had been living unlawfully in Houston, has pleaded guilty to the mail fraud conspiracy. Maknojiya has agreed to pay compensation to the scheme's identified victims as part of his plea bargain.

He was involved in a telemarketing scam that involved using Indian call centres to extort money from victims in the United States between April and October 2019.
