Indian-origin Veena Sahajwalla wins NSW Australian of the year 2022

NSW's four awardees will attend the national awards event in Canberra on January 25, 2022, with those from other states and territories.

The 2022 New South Wales (NSW) Australian of the year along with the other three categories NSW Senior Australian, Young Australian and Local Hero were announced on Monday at Luna Park in the presence of Margaret Beazley, Governor of NSW and Dominic Perrottet, NSW Premier.

Professor Veena Sahajwalla was awarded the 2022 NSW Australian of the Year; the president of the Islamic Women’s Welfare Association (IWWA) Abla Kadous is NSW Senior Australian of the Year; Founder of Street side medics Dr Daniel Nour is the Young Australian of the year and the NSW local hero was Shanna Whan, the founder and CEO of Sober in the Country.
