India’s groundbreaking photojournalist Homai Vyarawalla featured at Met exhibition

The ongoing exhibition pays homage to forgotten women photographers from the 1920s-1950s who made significant advances in the field of photography.

Homai Vyarawalla was a trailblazer as the first female press photographer in India. She was famously known by her pseudonym ‘Dalda 13’, the name she used to publish most of her pictures.

She revolutionized photography in journalism through her images, which are currently being displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The theme for the exhibition is “The New Woman Behind the Camera”, it features the works of trailblazing female photographers active between 1920-1950, who made impressive contributions to modern photography.
