India's second year at UNSC will end on a high note in Dec 2022, says Tirumurti

India's term of two years as a non-permanent member of the 15-nation Security Council will end on 31st December 2022.

The country's Permanent Representative, Ambassador T S Tirumurti, has said that, "India’s tenure as a nonpermanent member of the UNSC will be a period of consolidation and reinforcement of its priorities.”

He said, "We will continue to play the role of a bridge between diverse interests within the council." The country is halfway through its eighth tenure as an elected member of the Security Council. Tirumurti said that there has been a renewed focus on maritime security, UN peacekeeping, and combating terrorism in the last year.
