India's Suresh Raina receives 'Sports Icon' award from Maldives govt

Raina is most recognized for his contributions to the Indian cricket team's World Cup victory in 2011. He has also won the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy four times with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team.

The Maldives government honored Indian cricketer Suresh Raina with the prestigious 'Sports Icon' award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022. He was nominated along with 16 other international athletes, including former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, former Sri Lankan cricketer and captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, and Dutch football icon Edgar Davids.

Raina received the prize for his numerous accomplishments throughout his career. He received the award in the presence of Md. Zahir Ahsan Russel, Bangladesh's Minister of Youth and Sports; Al-Kadi Badr Abdul Rahman, Saudi Arabia's Vice Minister of Sports; and Ahmed Nazeer, Honorary President of the Maldives Tennis Association.
