INSACOG confirms BA. 4, BA. 5 sub-variants of Omicron in India
The first instance of the BA.4 subvariant of the Omicron strain of coronavirus in India was detected in Hyderabad from a genomic surveillance program.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has confirmed the presence of Omicron subvariants BA. 4 and BA. 5 in India.
BA. 4 and BA. 5 are Omicron subvariants that are found all over the world. Both the BA. 4 and BA. 5 Omicron variants have been linked to the fifth COVID wave in South Africa, and the US and Europe have recently confirmed this.
