India's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General MM Naravane recently inaugurated the Indian Army Memorial in Cassino in Italy, erected in the memory of Indian soldiers who fought and died to liberate Italy in World War II.
The memorial, located about 140 km from Rome, pays homage to over 3,100 Commonwealth servicemen, including 900 Indian soldiers, who were deployed to fight German and Japanese forces between 1943 and 1945.
