External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar outlined at Lok Sabha on Friday, how chip-based e-passports will improve security just days after Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced their rollout. The e-passports, according to authorities, would enable simple clearance through immigration checkpoints around the world.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the e-passports in her Budget speech on Feb. 1. These passports are now being examined and will be available in six months.
