Jayathi Murthy becomes first woman of color to lead Oregon State University

Murthy came to the United States after pursuing mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, where she was named a distinguished alumna in 2012.

Oregon’s largest public University, Oregon State University (OSU) announced the appointment of Jayathi Y. Murthy, a prominent educator and researcher, as its next president.

Murthy will take office as OSU’s 16th president for a five year term on Sept.9, 2022 and will succeed Becky Johnson, who has served as OSU’s interim president since May 1, 2021.
