The Election Commission of India, which is the body responsible for regulating the political parties in the country, has recognized the Kerala Pravasi Association (KPA), a party led by Malayalee expatriates, as a political party in the state of Kerala.

While expats form over one third of Kerala’s population and contribute about 37 percent of the state’s GDP, former governments and parties have failed to include them in the development of their state.
