A task force has been formed under the leadership of Niti Aayog member Dr. V.K. Paul, to monitor the outbreak of the zoonotic virus and explore the possibilities of developing vaccines for it.

India reported its first death due to Monkey pox after a 22-year-old Kerala man who had returned from the UAE on July 21 died in Thrissur on Sunday. The Kerala government said it was revealed only after his death that the man had contracted Monkey pox in the foreign country.

State Health Minister Veena George that the man was admitted to a private hospital in Thrissur on July 27 after he showed signs of encephalitis, fever and swollen lymph nodes. The patient had not disclosed that he was texted positive for the virus to the officials treating him.
