Kerala’s Kumbalangi becomes first sanitary napkin-free village in India

Under the ‘Avalkkayi’ initiative over 5000 menstrual cups were distributed to women at the age of 18 and above in the village.

Kumbalangi, a village in the Ernakulam district of Kerala has been declared as the first-ever sanitary napkin-free village in the country. The announcement was made by Arif Mohammed Khan, the Governor of Kerala on Thursday.

This is part of a unique campaign undertaken by the Eranakulum constituency as a part of the ‘Avalkkayi’ or ‘for her’ scheme. Under this initiative, over 5000 menstrual cups were distributed to women over the age of 18 and awareness programs were held in the Panchayat.
