Law Institute of Victoria to get its first India born President

If Asthana assumes office, she will be the first India born South Asian to lead the organisation in its 162 year history.

India born and educated Molina Asthana was declared as the President elect 2022 of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) and is said to assume office in January 2023.She currently serves as the Vice President of LIV, which is the central body that governs all judicial matters in Victoria, and has had an illustrious career as a lawyer in both Australia and India.

Coming from a family of Lawyers Asthana completed her law studies in India and was appointed as a lawyer in India’s apex judicial body, the Supreme Court of India. On moving to Australia her Indian qualifications and experience were not recognized forcing Asthana to start from scratch. She obtained a Master of Laws degree from University of Melbourne and got her first break at a top tier law firm Clayton Utz.
