Lens View: Delhi on Yellow Alert amid Omicron scare, ramps up testing
The Union Health Ministry issued a letter to eight states and union territories advising them to take immediate measures as the country reported a single-day spike of over 13,000 new COVID-19 cases.

In India, which had slowly been recovering from the devastating COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year, the omicron variant is once again raising fears of a third wave among the people. New Delhi banned large gatherings during New Year's while several other states have also placed various restrictions, including vaccination requirements and night curfews to curb the spread of the new variant.

Delhi government has issued a yellow alert and restrictions have been placed under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) prepared by the government in August due to the increasing number COVID-19 cases within the state. The city recorded 496 new cases in a single day, the highest jump in the spread of the infection since the 4th of June.
