Tasbir Singh, 32, was held in police custody since July 7. Border agents in Detroit ceased 2,200 pounds of marijuana worth $3.2 million from Tasbir’s truck. He was released July 23 and returned to his residence in Windsor, Ontario. During his detention for 16 days, he has missed his naturalization ceremony in Canada.
The authorities have dropped charges against the trucker temporarily. His lawyer claimed that he was an unwitting victim of the drug smuggling scam. Ellen Michaels, Tasbir’s attorney claimed that he did not get out of the truck while it was being loaded due to the Covid-19 standard operation protocols.
