On July 12,2022, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese announced that his film foundation called The Film Foundation would screen the restored version of Kummatty, a classic Malayalam movie. The Kummatty, directed by Aravindan Govindan, will be shown in The Film Foundation Restoration Screening Room, the Goodfellas director announced on Instagram. Many fans expressed their gratitude to Scorsese for choosing the movie and described it as a proud occasion for Malayalam cinema in the comments section.
The Restoration Screening Room was established in 1990 by Scorsese's The Film Foundation to show films that had been restored with its assistance. I Know Where I'm Going, a 1945 romance, was the first film restored and presented as part of this effort.
