As per a survey conducted by Essential Research, 78 percent of Australians believe that migrants already living and working in the country should be given a path to permanent resident status.

The survey was commissioned by the Human Rights Law Centre. The study found that 58 percent of respondents felt migrants assist fill skills shortages for specific jobs after interacting with over 1,000 people across the country. In contrast, 54% feel they contribute to Australia's cultural variety.
