New and comprehensive gun safety package signed into law in the state of Illinois

A new and comprehensive gun safety bill is made into law in Illinois with bipartisan support that mandates universal background checks on all firearm purchases.

A landmark piece of legislation sponsored by State Sen. Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago) to address gun safety and for the reduction of gun violence was recently signed into law in the state of Illinois.

Titled the House Bill 562, this law intends to among many things, expand the background checks done on those who wish to purchase firearms and provides funding for mental health in communities that are most affected by gun violence.
