The ongoing appeal hearing in the extradition case of Nirav Modi, who is wanted in India on suspicion of fraud and money laundering in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) loan scandal case, was opened by a UK court on Tuesday. On the basis of mental health, the 51-year-old diamond trader had filed an appeal against his extradition order last year.

Last December, the High Court held an initial meeting to decide whether District Judge Sam Goozee's Westminster Magistrates' Court decision from February 2021 in favour of extradition was correct. The hearing was presided over by Justice Robert Jay and Lord Justice Jeremy Stuart-Smith.
